Martín Sarubbi, the newly appointed defense lawyer for Konstantin Rudnev.
Martín Sarubbi, the newly appointed defense lawyer for Konstantin Rudnev and his wife Tamara, has outlined a more cautious, technical approach in the federal case often referred to in local coverage as the “Bariloche Russian sect” investigation. According to Argentine outlet Puro Contenido, Sarubbi has said his strategy will focus on a full review of the record and a procedural challenge to whether the evidence supports the accusations.
Sarubbi replaces attorney Carlos Broitman, who had taken a more public-facing role in the case. The new lawyer told local media he formally assumed the defense in recent days and immediately began a complete analysis of what has been done so far, describing the file as extensive and requiring rigorous technical review.
A Lower-Exposure Strategy Focused on the Case File
According to Puro Contenido, Sarubbi said he was brought in specifically to reinforce the defense in a case with heavy public exposure and that his role is limited to representing Rudnev and his wife, rather than multiple defendants. He said the defense position is that Rudnev is not responsible for the crimes under investigation and argued that suspicions must be supported by verifiable facts.
The report says Sarubbi traveled from Buenos Aires to Bariloche to review the case in the jurisdiction where the federal file originated, and later went to Rawson in an attempt to hold an in-person meeting with Rudnev at Federal Prison Unit 6, where he remains held while pretrial issues continue to be litigated.
April Hearing and a Key Contradiction the Defense Plans to Emphasize
One focal point, the outlet reports, will be an April hearing as the case moves into a stage where prosecutors must advance their position to sustain the proceedings. Sarubbi pointed to what he described as a central contradiction in the origin of the case: he said the person initially presented as a “victim” later stated in a formal interview that she was not a victim of anyone.
Sarubbi also commented on the prosecution’s role, saying he intends to maintain a respectful tone while critically analyzing each element of evidence presented by investigators. He framed the defense as strictly legal and procedural, emphasizing that the case’s complexity requires careful, methodical work.

The broader case remains under investigation in Argentina’s federal courts, with Rudnev still in custody as proceedings continue and the parties prepare for the next procedural steps.
